Frequently Asked Questions

Mention scuba diving, and there are always many questions. We are always happy to answer your questions. If there is anything you don't see here, please ask us.

Q: What is PADI?
A: PADI stands for the Professional Association of Dive Instructors, and is the largest scuba certification agency in the world.

Q: How long will I be certified?
A: Your certification will never expire, but like any skill, it takes practice. If it has been a significant time since you have been diving, we highly recommend a refresher. Our former students are always welcome to "tag along" with future classes.

Q: I am not a very good swimmer. Can I still learn to dive?
A: Sea Hunt and James Bond movies notwithstanding, you do not need to be an Olympic athlete to scuba dive. You will need to swim 200 yards, but there is no speed requirement. You will also need to tread water for 10 minutes.

Q: How deep do I have to/can I go?
A: Most of our training dives will be between 20 and 30 feet deep. You are technically certified to dive up to 60 feet, however, we do not recommend that you dive beyond your training. With additional training, recreational divers can dive up to 100 feet for Advanced Open Water Divers, and 130 with additional training.
